Lord Of The Rings Return of the King: What happens to Merry?
I got it on DVD and was watching it…. after the big battle where Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli get the ghosts to help, Pippin is walking through the battlefield and finds Merry unconscious with an Orc on top of him. I know he stabs the big black rider guy (whatever his name is! Lol) but then after that he disappears! Did I miss anything or don’t we actually see what happens?
In the book, Eowyn and Theoden are born away by the Riders of Rohan (thinking that Eowyn is dead) but they don’t see Merry. Merry gets up completely out of it (the black breath is on him and is slowly killing him…kinda like the poison frodo had in the first movie) and he wanders around Minas Tirith. Pippin eventually finds him and takes him to the houses of healing where he spends three or four days recovering. Due to the resilience of the hobbit race on the whole, it does not effect him as badly as it does Eowyn (who is on the brink of death before Aragorn calls her back) or Frodo who carried the poison for longer. I don’t know if that was explained in the movie (as I was not terribly fond of that rendering of my favorite book to life), but that’s how it happened in the book

I just watched it the last week. and yeah, he just flies backwards and thats all you see. Then Pippen comes looking for him and finds him under that orc.

pippin finds merry at the end of the battle then the next time you see them they are in the shire after the ring is destroyed

In the movie, just after Merry stabs the ringwraith in the back of the leg, for a brief second we see Merry wince in pain and grab his wrist. When next we see Merry, Pippin finds him passed out and buried under an orc. Then the Houses of Healing is glossed over, and Merry is back fighting the next day or so. Very poor translation to film as was the whole Houses of Healing scene (just the twenty second background of a song).
